2014 Round Up

2014 was a very successful year for Solent EG
We had a full programme of talks and workshops from inspirational speakers and tutors.

In February Jenny Bullen showed us how to interpret Kanthas techniques in a very individual way.

April saw the return of Katie Pirson this time giving a superb masterclass in Goldwork.

In June we had a fascinating day layering and stitching on manipulated photo prints with Linda Walsh

In October our workshop programme finished with a day incorporating fibre and thread within felt with Karen Head.

All these tutors were so generous with their ideas and advice. I think the work speaks for how much we all enjoyed our time with them and how much we learned.

Two of our founder members, Maureen Evans and Rosemary Noakes gave us a brilliant talk to round off our programme in November. They had both been key in the research and reconstruction of the dress that Emma Hamilton designed and wore to celebrate Nelson’s victory at the Battle of the Nile in 1798. It was fascinating to see their beautifully stitched samples and to hear how they had researched the authentic materials and techniques to recreate the stitched panels. The dress is permanently on display in the Lambert McCarthy Gallery in the Portsmouth Royal Naval Museum.
